To mark World Vegan Month, actress Mallika Sherawat has joined the global organization Veganuary as an ambassador. Supporting the movement, Mallika shared,
“I am a firm believer in compassion and Ahimsa. Eating plant-based is my secret to staying fit, active, and having a clear conscience. Give it an honest try—leave animals off your plate.”
World Vegan Month, celebrated every November, raises awareness about the benefits of a plant-based diet. Veganuary, launched in 2014, is a global initiative encouraging people to embrace veganism. What started humbly on a kitchen table in the UK has grown into a global phenomenon with participants from nearly every country.
Prashanth Vishwanath, India Director of Veganuary, expressed his excitement about Mallika’s involvement:
“We are thrilled to have Mallika join us as a Veganuary Ambassador. She has always been a vocal advocate for animals and embodies the essence of making kindness cool. Mallika is an inspiring example of thriving on a plant-based diet, both on and off the screen. We’re grateful for her support and hope millions of her fans take her advice to try vegan this month.”
In India, Veganuary has achieved significant success, with over 2.5 lakh pledges to try veganism. Nearly 300 Indian companies, including Amazon Fresh, Hilton Hotels, Nature’s Basket, Baskin Robbins, and Hard Rock Café, have supported the campaign over the past three years with new vegan products, menu items, and special offers.
The campaign has gained immense popularity among celebrities. Mallika now joins 10 other Indian celebrities who have endorsed Veganuary. To help participants, Veganuary offers over 10 free resources, including a celebrity cookbook featuring vegan recipes from both Indian and international celebrities. The latest edition includes one of Mallika’s own recipes—a winter favorite!
