This Diwali, Piyal Banerjee, on behalf of Sew In Style, celebrated the festival of lights in a unique and heartfelt way by spreading joy and compassion to those in need. In association with the Tohri Foundation, and supported by contributors such as Dr. Raja Dhar Foundation, Chaitali Das, Suman Soodji, Kalyan Bhattacharya, Boria Majumdar, Nivedita, and many others, Piyal organized a special Diwali celebration for underprivileged children and destitute old age homes.
Diwali, a time of joy, shopping, and family gatherings, can sometimes highlight the stark contrast between the privileged and the less fortunate. For millions of people in India, Diwali is just another day of struggling for basic necessities and facing challenges like abuse, exploitation, and lack of access to education. In light of this, Piyal Banerjee and her collaborators aimed to bring hope and happiness to those who need it most.
The event saw the distribution of new clothes, essential items, and food packages to children and elderly individuals in need. This initiative was part of a long-term commitment to support these communities, with the Tohri Foundation, led by Dr. Anandajit Goswami, working tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children. Through the support of various contributors, essential items will continue to be provided on a monthly basis to ensure consistent care and support.
As Piyal Banerjee rightly puts it, “This Diwali, let’s celebrate differently by walking the extra mile for those in need.” The event not only brightened up the lives of many but also inspired a sense of hope for a better year ahead.
Sew In Style and Tohri Foundation remain committed to bringing smiles and making a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most, this Diwali and beyond.
