The story of Mavuris goes back to the 1930s, where it all began with Smt. Mavuri Veeramma, who devoted her life to preserving the art of handwoven sarees. As a matriarch from a lineage of skilled weavers, Veeramma tirelessly sold sarees on foot through the streets of Rajahmundry, fueled by her passion for traditional weaving. Recognizing the beauty of handwoven sarees early on, the Mavuri family took strides toward entrepreneurship, envisioning a future where authentic Indian textiles would be celebrated and cherished.
Carrying this vision forward, Harika Mavuri, the young and dynamic Managing Director of Mavuris, opened the brand’s first store in Visakhapatnam in 2021. Rooted in a family legacy that spans four generations in the textile industry, Harika’s commitment to promoting traditional Indian sarees has propelled Mavuris into the spotlight among saree connoisseurs. The brand has been certified under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, allowing it to showcase regional weaves, many of which hold the prestigious GI (Geographical Indication) tag, signifying their authentic origin and quality.
Now, Mavuris has launched its flagship store in Hyderabad, in the upscale Jubilee Hills area. Commenting on the expansion, Harika shares, “Hyderabad is an ideal city to present our collection of handwoven sarees. We are excited to form deeper connections here. I believe a saree is more than just fabric—it represents the individuality of the wearer.”
The new two-story store offers an impressive selection of over 5,000 artisanal sarees, featuring styles like Kanchipuram, Banarasi, Mysore, Bengal Jamdani, Patan Patola, Ikats, Kalamkaris, Bhagalpur, Paithani, and Khadi.
